The first time we noticed an issue with basement AC was a year later after the install (2012). Every year, there would be an issue with the basement 4 ton unit where it loses its r410a charge. The other unit (the problem unit) is setup in basement and is a 4 ton unit. One unit is setup in attic and is a 3 ton ac. This post will only focus on the AC side. He verified that the ECM 2.3 module that I had purchased was bad, but could find nothing else wrong in the system. I had a HVAC Technician take a look at it. I have a background in electronics and industrial motor controls but am unfamiliar with HVAC controls.ДЄny ideas why the second control module blew? I verified the supply voltage to the air handler from the breaker and it looks good. The same fuseable trace in the new control module has now burnt up. The fan was working fine, running at a slower speed where there was a loud POP and it died.

Fired up the air handler and put the fan in manual mode. Verified that the motor spins freely and bearings were ok. Ordered a new control module online ($$$). There were no shorts to ground and nothing smelled/looked burnt so I assumed that the motor was ok. The windings of the motor were right at 2.9 to 3 ohms between each pin on the plug. The motor itself has three leads that plug into the control module.

Further investigation showed that two of the MOSFET drivers were cooked.

Upon pulling it apart I discovered that a fuseable trace on the board inside of the control module was burnt up. I was asked to look at an 8 year old Carrier air handler, model FV4BNF003.
